Model Assessment of an Open-Source Smoothed Particle Hydrodynamics (SPH) Simulation of a Vibration-Assisted Drilling Process

Minimum Quantity Lubrication (MQL) is a cooling and lubrication variant applied, for instance, in drilling processes. In the present approach, new vibration-assisted process analyzed, which has considerable potential manufacturing of extremely hard materials. Within this process, MQL gas/liquid transport presence vibrating rotating twist drill bit borehole to be studied. Multiphase computational fluid dynamics applied analyze optimize flow. However, applying conventional CFD methods with discretized continuum equations on numerical grid challenging as frequently closes gap borehole, where even dynamic application fails. The ability use an open-source Smoothed Particle Hydrodynamics (SPH) meshless method media flow carried out accurately efficiently address problem overcome severe limitations mesh-based methods. For feasibility study method, air phase cavity analyzed by SPH validated against results. shows insufficient results both terms solution plausibility cost, simulation at hand.
